Giving Wings to their Dreams

History records significant scholarly achievements of kids raised in ordinary homes. Cramped living conditions, no electricity, bearing family responsibilities on tender shoulders by doing hard labor apart from school timings haven’t stopped achievers from dreaming big! Shahabudinpur is a serene village surrounded by fields and few brick kilns. To boost up the learning process and as a supplementary to the teaching done in school, STEPS study centre under Cephas Foundation was set up in the heart of this village to aid the children in this vicinity few months ago.

On February 24th evening as the kids gathered for their time of study, a big surprise awaited them. A fun activity with balloons was conducted to help them realize that focus on the goal can be distracted by many factors around them and how they need to work hard to attain the goal. With the exams approaching within few weeks, 110 students were given exam boards, pencil kit and colors. The overwhelmed children and parents shared some heart touching feedback.

Barely at the age of 9, little Anushka has been pushed to replace her pregnant mom, who also works outdoors, in running the household. The father said that the gifts were a reminder that she needs to set apart more time to study and it has brightened her hopes for the future.

Raju, with his bright smile said that he aspires to become an engineer in the future.

The sparkle in Komal’s eye couldn’t be missed in the crowd. Her mother walked up and said that Komal was a hard worker and loves to study. She thanked the centre staff for the gift, as they could never buy gifts to encourage their hard working child.

Koyal who wishes to be an orator, has been a defaulter from school for the last few months as she has been working in the brick kiln. The gifts are a boon to this confident little girl. She communicated her thanks in English to the surprise of the people around.
