International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women – while also marking a call to action for accelerating gender equality. #EachforEqual is the IWD 2020 campaign theme. It’s a call to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations and celebrate women all across the globe.
Sanjana dropped out of school as early as a 9 year old. Having passed class 3, a big responsibility of raising her siblings fell on her, as the family lost the mother due to sickness. Since then, she had no dreams or aspiration for the future. All she knew was to feed the family and complete the household chores. “I have no education or skill to boast about” she says with a shy smile.
With the International women’s day round the corner, on February 25th, Cephas foundation initiated the Skilled hands project – A Tailoring unit to empower women in Shahabudinpur, Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh. We eagerly look forward to empower simple, unskilled girls and women and transform them into confident and self-sufficient individuals.
